Feedback

Feedback is very important in an online classroom.  The feedback an instructor gives allows a student to make the necessary adjustments to suuceed and make better grades if necessary from week to week.

What are some different types of feedback that you use to steer your students towards success?

Giving positive feedback and helping students gain confidence in what they are doing is key to their success.

There was plenty of valuable information in the training. It was a relevant course, and I enjoyed  the user format.

Hi Charles,

One thing that I do to reiterrate continuous feed back is by having the students put their answers on the board each week. I tell them I do not care who put what up on the board, or that the answers may be incorrect. Next, we go over each answer as a class to verify if it is right or wrong. If it is wrong, we all look it up together as a class to see how we would find the correct answer. Last, I ask everyone in the class if there is any answer that was up on the board that they would like to review as a class. This way no single student is singled out for not having a correct answer, and everyone learns together how to find something they may have not known otherwise.

I continually reinforce them then offer them a different view in opening the door to answering questions.  They are naturally drawn to understand which leads to better grades.  It is the inital reinforcement and encouragement that has them compete with themselves (and other students) for the better grade.  The validation of the grade is not only the reward for their effort but also the inherent incentive for the next grade.
