Enhancing Student Security

While teaching in the vocational setting I realized how important it was to provide students with security in the learning environment. I first reflected back on my own experience and remembered the great instructors that I had and how I felt in the learning process. I could remember the difference in my instructors and how some were negative while others were very motivating, uplifting, and encouraging. Many of our students that come in have either just graduated from High School or may have had a bad experience of being lost in the numbers at a University. Because this may be their first experience out of High School or a second chance in a "college type" setting, I believe the whole journey is spent not just teaching but motivating the underdogs, second-chancer, or even the beginners. While learning should be a challenge, it should also be fulfilling and encouraging along the way. These individuals go on to the University levels and excel because of the Vocational foundation. Enhancing student security allows us as educators at any and all levels prepare them for the next level they are reaching for, be it the Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral Degrees. Security is what drives us all as students in the educational environment or we wouldn't have the opportunity to teach/instruct today.
