There's plenty of criticism going around regarding the fact that much of the entire U.S. educational system from preschool to postsecondary education is outdated in the 21st century economy. In fact, it's a bit cliche at this point but every now-and-then, something grabs your attention. This video has over 4 Million views on YouTube and while I can't tell you why it resonates with so many, I can tell you what I enjoyed about it:
1. This video was made in 2007 before it was as popular as it is now to criticize the educaiton system. The great recession acted somewhat as a catalyst to raise the issue of our lackluster education system given its importance to the U.S. economy but this video did it before it was "popular."
2. This video was made by over 200 contributors who were college students at the time. This fact gives this video much more appeal to me as it was the collaborative effort of the very voice that often gets left out of the discussion of our education system - students, those affected most.
3. The video itself is an example of innovation in how we can use technology in a meaningful way to encourage engagement and to perpetuate discussion and continued, asynchronous learning for those who wish to participate. This happens through forums, syndication of the content, and curation of the content and with over 4 million views, I gaurantee people have continued the discussion of the issues raised in this video.
