The Teaching in Career Education Group is for instructors teaching in career education institutions to discuss topics related to instruction and student learning.
student retention is very hot topic and needs moreattention from us .
i learned a lot from ED209 course,,was great couse .
i give my students gift cards every one in awhile to keep them excited and for them to come and do well
Ensuring that students understand that learning is an important part of customer service; without it, teachers are not holding up their end of the bargain.
I agree. I think creativeity in the classroom or even hands on can keep students more interested. Rewards always seem to pay off with students.
I agree with Lisa and Lacey. Perfect attendance awards are good motivators too. This gives average students who hardly or never earn excellent achievement awards a pat on the back for giving importance to being in class 100% of the time. Retention is extremely important. Numbers initially go down during the "weeding out" phase. Subsequently, it is essential for instructors to play a major role in keeping the numbers above the line.
i agree. I can't teach them anything, if i can't get them to come into the classroom. Retention is one of main focuses. Getting them excited to come back the next day by giving them a cliff hanger type question at the end of the day is one way we facilitate this.
Perfect attendance awards work well too!
