ED102
I just completed the course and it was a good refresher of student retention. Sometimes in higher education we forget that students learning can be impacted by outside factors and it was good to review these and implement new strategies in ensuring that we as instructors communicate their success through feedback.
I too just completed this course and it reminded me to remember that student's have a life outside of college that can be 'tring' to say the least. Initially, students come to us highly motivated, but the challege is to assist them in maintaing this motivation and focus so that they may successfully complete the course.
I agree. Sometimes it is easy to stay in a teaching style that is comfortable for you instead of having the flexibility to change styles that are best suited to the current group of students.
I agree with you Ms. Lori Johnston. I took the course last week and it was a good refresher for me as well. Although, I am not teaching via web, I have plans to do so and by completing this course, I learned a lot about on-line courses. I began to use some of the strategies on classroom teaching beginning last week. I started a new course on Friday, 4/22/11 and I asked the students for self-introductions including their goals in life, etc. It was a great exchange of information session and I also learned a lot of about other students.
