It is important to begin a new program with meeting staff and faculty members of the institution. It can be an exciting time for students.
I am wondering if anyone has made it mandatory to attend Orientation. I have never worked at an institution that made it mandatory to attend orientation. If a student misses it for one reason or another he or she still can attend classes. There are other areas that stated in the course (RT 103) orientation really does not end but that does not really cover the word as it is used for a meeting before classes begin.
