Hi, Is it better to have a daily quiz at the beginning or end of the class? Thanks, Andy

Hi, I learned that you should ask specific students specific questions that are open ended. Is this a good strategy? Thanks, Andy

Hi, I teach math and have noticed that there seems to be more visual learners nowadays. Is this a correct assumption, that current media has swayed the populous into a certain preferred mold of learning? For instance, a tv generation may be more visual while a computer generation is more kinesthetic. Thanks, Andy

Also, just stare at them and don't talk. The others will tell the jokesters to be quiet. :)

Greetings,

I’d try to shift the focus of the class away from the jokesters by first stopping everything and pointing out correct behaviors. Give appreciation to those students that are taking notes and hold up their papers for all to see. Focus on the positives. Reward those that are paying attention. And try to setup a community of healthy choices that are easier to promote than the distracting ones.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks!

Is it ok to send everything out to the students all at once on the first day? How can we eliminate overwhelming the students with info. overload on the first day?

On the average, how many hours a week should we take to prepare our classes?
What are good times to be available for students? Should we be available 24/7?
We've decided to put up sheets in our classrooms that identify problems with the equipment. This really helps but students still complain about the temperature in the room. Unfortunately we don't have a thermostat and the multicomputers heat up the room terribly. Some days it's perfect and others it's uncomfortable. Are there any suggestions on how to make the classroom equipment more manageable; especially for items that can not be controlled?
