I appreciated the specific information on types of assessment questions and the pros/cons and things to consider for each.  I find that each type of question can be effective depending on what type of learning the instructor is trying to assess.

I learned the importance of making sure that the type of assessment used is actually and accurately measuring what has been learned.  It provides valuable insight into whether students are learning and whether instructors are effectively teaching.  I love the idea of using CATs in class for daily or near daily formative assessment.  It also reminded me of the importance of teaching general education skills to develop future competent professionals who can be successful in their field of study.

I love the concept of asking questions to gauge student learning.  I also appreciated the information on the Socratic method and the specific types of questions that can be asked to facilitate deeper understanding and learning of the subject and improve student involvement.

It is important to incorporate teaching methods that include auditory, written, visual, and kinesthetic components to better address the learning styles of more students.

It is important to use various approaches to teaching so that you are more likely to provide opportunities for learning that address all learning styles.  It is also important to practice, come prepared, and reflect after each class on how things went and what changes could be made for continual improvement.

This module reminded me how important it is to make a good first impression.  It is important to introduce yourself, but also to get to know the students and allow them time to get to know each other.  Defining expecations, reviewing policies and procedures, and motivating students by expressing your passion for the subject and relating it to them by establishing how the course will provide them with the skills and knowledge to achieve their goals, are also vital.

This reinforced to me how important it is to establish a good first impression.  Making a list and covering all of the introductory topics to establish expectations is vital.  It is also important to motivate the students to want to be in the class by getting to know you, the instructor, and their fellow students to establish a positive connection.  Also, demonstrate your passion for the subject and encourage the students by ensuring them that you will support their learning and provide clear, achievable goals.

I appreciated the detailed list of instructioal components that need to be considered when preparing to teach.  I also liked the resource for developing a syllabus.  There are so many components to a good and thorough syllabus that it will be nice to have a list of components to compare my syllabi to to ensure that I have covered all necessary topics.  The tips about arriving early, prepared and ready to greet your class, I believe really sets the tone and can provide the students with a good first impression.  I plan to incorporate the use of a checklist and… >>>

It is honestly a little overwhelming, as there are so many things to consider when teaching.  My favorite part of teaching is being able to model professionalism and the passion that I have for my profession to the students.  I appreciated the advice about managing the classroom and that preparation is key.  This module also helped me realize how important is to have a formal PDP to continue to strengthen my abilities as an instructor for improved teaching outcomes and learning by the students.

I appreciated the clear definitions and examples of the various types of learning strategies, including direct, indirect, interactive, and independent.  It provided me with a lot of great new options to incorporate into the classroom for more effective teaching and learning.
