I think my greatest takeaway from this section is understanding that everyone is responsible for academic retention of our students. We all work together to help the students be successful. In order to keep our program and our organization successful, we must have successful completion of the program by students with few retention issues. We must mentor our students and help them gain the necessary knowledge to continue in the program and not give up.

Reaching out to students struggling in class on exams or those who are quiet may help identify a need. Being present and available to students for support and tutoring can also help decrease the retention issues.

Stress plays a major role on how students feel regarding their accademic success. If a student is feeling small and insignificant related to academic struggles, they are more likely to drop out. Being supportive and helpful to the students, providing them with timely feedback on assignments/exams/whatever will help decrease that stress and help them be successful and stay in the program.

Retention means different things for different people involved in the educational process. To me, as the educator, I want my students to continue to grow and stay engaged and remain successful in the program. As the educator, it is my job to be thorough and helpful to help them stay on track.

I have learned a lot about word choice and being open and honest. It is okay to not know something sometimes, but making sure that you guide the students to the proper person is the correct thing to do to make sure student's needs are met. We must never misrepresent the school.

Our misrepresentations can have a huge impact on student satisfaction, our credibility, and could potentially result in withdrawal, filing of a suit, and other negatives outcomes. We must be honest and factual.

I have learned that it is extremely easy to give misrepresentation. You have to be percise and avoid superlatives. This is something that requires a lot of knowledge and to really think about what you're saying.

Transparency is key to success for students, educators, and the institution. Anyone working within the organization must be familiar with the school's mission, vission, and manner of operations. Honesty about the future for graduates is also important. They need to be aware of the actual demands of their future careers.

This topic has been pretty fascinating for me. For one, I am a nurse, so I understand the role of the State Board of Nursing, but I never quite understood the role of the accrediting bodies nor why they were important. Understanding that these accrediting bodies help ensure that students are getting the best education possible is a great benefit for schools. I didn't realize that schools aren't required to be accredited. Interesting information.

Understanding that compliance is an essential component to a successful business and management of employees, staff, and students, but the idea of a culture of compliance is more effective and helps to maintain a successful relationship between these members of the organization. We can't focus on the negative, but instead, we must provide guidelines, adhere to them, and be open and honest with all communication.
