Students love seeing the "human" side of a teacher. It goes both ways in that a teacher should know his/her students just as students should know their instructor.

As a new online instructor, it is important for the instructor to completly understand the system that the course will be delivered. Students will be easily frustrated and if the instructor can't "fix" the issue, the student will be lost.
