Tri, I think your approach is the best for your students. It is critical that the students have options depending on their abilities and confidence. Great job on managing your students based on their needs. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers
Elizabeth, I think most FA professional struggle and lose sleep over an audit; however, you have to be proactive with continued training and monitoring throughout the award year. It is unfortunate when you have a change in personnel but your approach is the best one - try to get caught up and review as many as possible. It may be helpful to identify areas of weakness and attack those types of files or documentation first. Best wishes in your continue pursuit of online financial aid knowledge. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers
Elizabeth, Based on your response to reporting it appears your team has standard operating procedures with checks/balances to ensure compliance in a timely and accurate manner. Financial Aid Reporting is critical to the overall success of the financial aid and business offices. It is great to see how you have these responsibilities defined and assigned. Navin, I think you will find that more and more students will be comfortable with online processing with FOTW due to more and more students growing up with more online experience. It is important that you have a method to recognize those that require more of a hands-on approach. As long as you have the ability to identify those that need more assistance your approach of maximizing the utilization of FOTW should be successful. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers
Jennifer, That is a very good point - the source can make this process easier to complete. I appreciate you pointing this out to the others. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers

Jennifer, Many of the other participants have indicated this in their responses to this forum. They indicated the wait for the SS Letter or documentation to substantiate the student did not "knowingly and willfully" fail to register can be difficult and time-consuming to obtain. Jennifer, It does appear that students and parents are utilizing the IRS DRT and this has been a benefit to the process. It has eliminated errors in these areas and made the process more efficient for all. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers

Catalina , If you are considering a PJ, you need to collect from the student a statement on the situation with the mother indicating no contact and unsure of her location and at least one statement from another third party that can confirm the student has no contact with the mother and the mother is M.I.A. Then you will need documentation on how the student is supporting herself. After you collect the statements and documentation you will need to determine if the student is eligible for a dependency override PJ. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers
Catalina , I think it is excellent that you utilize various medians to communicate with your students. It takes different approaches with students since most are not a one size fits all. It is good to provide a listing of what is required to ensure the student (and parent if applicable) fully understands their requirements. Full notification is the best method to use when communicating with students. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers

Catalina , Most of the participants in this forum share your thoughts. FOTW is a more streamline and efficient process than the paper FAFSA. Sincerely, Chyrl Chyrl Ayers
