About me

Activity

I do my best to speak with clarity and knowledge of my field. I strive constantly to motivate each student. I hope I always model a member of the dental field that my students can admire and emulate.

I found the verbal cues for building rapport very helpful. I make every effort not to embarrass or cause anyone to feel left out. In a lab setting this is usual not an issue since it is a smaller group of students, but in lecture, I appreciate the "script."

I plan to make a greater effort to learn student names within the first couple days. This is definitely a weak area for me, and I know the value in this. People love hearing their name and I do know this.

I find in our program, the adult learners (over 30) sometimes require more encouragement. They can lack confidence and I have to be careful that I am not "babysitting" as the course warns about. They do seem more motivated but look for validation from me about their progress.

I agree that writing is a skill that needs polished and nurtured throughout ones profession. I am challenged by the issue of plagiarizing on occasion and always find this disappointing and awkward to address. I appreciate the sequence of a writing assignment in regards to offering the student support.

I value the suggestions for interacting with a "ready to quit student." I try to encourage students across the board, but as I see students lack motivation or have complancency to do average or below average work, I hope to avoid dismissing the chance to reverse this.

I am happy to receive instruction regarding wait times; including all learners, not only those I assume will know the answers. I try to be cautious not to embarrass any student when questioning. Sometimes, I will announce first that my upcoming question is a difficult one, and I won't find fault or be disappointed if it goes unanswered. I always strive to keep my learning environment a safe one.

I think this can be adapted to dental clinical situations since so much of dentistry relies upon non verbal communicating.

Absolutely can not wait to use this!

Planning to use the Shower Cap idea when discussing the Trigeminal Nerve in Dental Terminology.
