K.C., This is excellent advice. The question is, how to keep students motivated when things aren't what they expected. Elizabeth Kemler
Joshuah, You're most welcome..best of luck in all your endeavors! Elizabeth Kemler
Lynne, This sounds like a perfect approach. One question for you though-are the various styles of sample cover letters all related to the type of job the student is seeking? Elizabeth Kemler
Pamela, I like that you have a clearly laid out list of responsibilities and that you hold them accountable for meeting them. It's so much easier to stay on task when there's something to reference like that. Elizabeth Kemler
KIMBERLY, This is so true! Job searching is most definitely a job-and encouraging your students to see it this way is very smart. And just like a job, they do need to do something every day to advance their mission. Great ideas Kimberly. Elizabeth Kemler
Pamela, I agree-it's definitely a good idea to get some experience with a desirable employer. Job fairs are also a great way to discover new opportunities for students. Elizabeth Kemler
Lynne, It sounds like you are approaching this from a number of angles-which is a great idea. Elizabeth Kemler
Pamela, The only thing I would add to your list is to work on your communication skills-those always prove helpful. Elizabeth Kemler
Joshuah, Sounds like an excellent followup protocol. Elizabeth Kemler
Rhonda, One of the things I've heard from many career service professionals, is that having former students who are now employed at a job in their chosen field come to speak to current students makes a big difference. They can offer them guidance about how to approach the job search, what helped in the interview, etc. Also, having professionals in the areas of the student's interest do presentations and Q&A can be very effective.
