Preparing Students for Interviews

I like your emphasis on the non-judgmental approach; this is really crucial to create a safe-feeling space for students where they can feel comfortable making mistakes. I also agree with as much practice as possible; it's easy to think, after one successful mock interview, that we got it and don't need to practice anymore. Of course the more we practice, the more natural and comfortable we become.

Absolutely. I always advocate for a natural style of interviewing-essentailly being a polished version of yourself; this is really just effective communication which is applicable to any and all interpersonal interaction.

Gary, I agree with this point. I had always had a somewhat negative view of networking-it sounded like 'shmoozing' to me but in the description I try to make the point that it is more like what you are suggesting-a hello at Starbucks-a comfortable conversation where you can at an opportune point, bring up the fact that you're looking for work. Gary, I love this idea! I now wish I had included it in the course.
