Jude, As I teach a gen ed required course I can relate to your situation. Thank you for the comments about capturing student attention when it comes to courses like this. You are right it is a challenge because there are times the students do not see the connection between this required course and their career preparation no matter how many applications I make. The good news though is that for the majority of students they do see the connection and what hard at acquiring the information in the course so they will be more effective at both written and… >>>

Colleen, I use this game a lot in my classes as well. My students love playing it and they get competitive real quick when the game starts. In the end they have fun and they realize they actually know a lot more than they think they do. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sandra, Right you are about how important it is to share real life situations with your students. By sharing these situations, examples and experiences you are helping the content come alive and have value for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dave, What are some strategies you use to show your students the relevancy of the content you are teaching? Thanks for your input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sandra, Consistency is essential if you are going to be the learning leader of your class. If you do not set and maintain standards then control will be quickly lost and the class falls apart. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Right you are so this is why we need to look at the learning environment through the eyes of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sandra, Yes it does. This way you are bringing the latest best practices from you field to your students in each class session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chris, Good way to get students to consider the options in a solving a problem. If they do not take the time to reflect on the situation they will often make a mistake or select a solution that is not viable. The more experience they have at reflecting the greater their problem solving skills will become. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Barbara, Thank you for sharing this strategy with us. It is a creative and engaging one. I know it will be useful to other instructors that are looking for ways to engage every student. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MARIBEL, Right you are about instructor enthusiasm and passion. Both of these elements contribute to the learning success of students. When you show your passion for your field and then bring enthusiasm for teaching about it to class every day you are increasing the value of the course to and for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
