About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mercedes, I use Prezi as well. It is so easy to use and it flows so well from one screen to another that my students stay engaged throughout the lecture. I would recommend it to other instructors due to the ease of use and presentation format. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Laura, Thank you for sharing this activity with us. It is a great one because it helps students to see where they are going once they complete school. The signing of their professional title is a big winner I am sure because for the first time in their lives they can visualize that before long it will actually be them with that title. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janet, This is a good point to remember as we instructors strive to improve our instructional abilities. We need to solicit student feedback and then use it to make any adjustments or adaptations we need to make because student feedback is the most targeted that we can receive. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glennda, So true. Relevancy and application are two essential elements needed to enhance the learning process for students. When both are present the students see the value of what is being taught and increase their "buy in" in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, I am a big fan of this type of approach for involving students. This way everyone can contribute to the class without excessive stress being put on them since they are sharing in a small group setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, You are fortunate to have access to this information as it gives you a deeper understanding of why your students are enrolled and what their background experiences have been. This is a great foundation upon which to build as you start off a new course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, You make a good and key point in relation to why students are enrolled. It is great when you can use the energy and drive of goal oriented students to help other students to see the value of the content and why they are in the class. This is especially true for students that are enrolled for reasons other than their own. They are often a challenge to get "buy in" from. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patrick, It is fun to start off a new class and get to know the students. Your approach enables this to happen and everyone can get settled into the course and start to become members of that learning community. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robyn, This is a good method to use in that it takes them beyond just following procedure but also gives them an understanding as to why the procedure is being used and what the results are that are desired for the patient. This will help them in their career growth because they will be able to analyze and problem solve situations as they come up and this will make them more valuable in the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melinda, Way to go in terms of personalizing your instruction to the specific goals of each student. By you taking the time to get their input as to where they want to go and then providing them with scenarios to support their professional growth you are helping them to move closer to their career goals and create a future for themselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
