As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Lyndsay, You are on the right track with this approach to your professional development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, When faced with problems that require stepping back and reflecting on possible solutions individuals need to know how to not only step back but how to come up with proposed solutions. As you say so many problems cannot be solved with just a quick reaction but need time and effort to be resolved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Right you are about the need for discipline. Self discipline seems to be lacking in many students today. We need to help our students to understand the value of acquiring self discipline and the benefits that will result from having it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Hudson, Like the way you walk your students through the process of patient care which is critical thinking at its best. Great foundation upon which to build additional experience and expertise in the area of critical thinking. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edward, Yes they do need to connect with their new career field. If they do not then they will have a tough time getting motivated and doing the work needed for course success. If they can project and see themselves working in their field then their enthusiasm will increase and their engagement will be enhanced. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edward, It is fun to see students ramp back up and get excited as they complete the rest of a course session. They do wear down and we need to be there to get them engaged again as well refocusing ourselves when we wear down part way through the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Meri, So true and so important. Passion and enthusiasm both go a long way in getting students excited about the content and how it can be applied to their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pamela, Good analysis on how to approach being a learning leader to and for students. Finding a balance in your role as instructor is important so that you can keep your students moving forward in their learning while being engaged in the process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aldo, The more you can help your students see the direct connection between the content and skills being developed the better. By having them practice their Interstate driving as well as getting the vehicle in and out of situations such as a warehouse shows them both application and relevancy. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aldo, Right you are about the value of a positive first impression. It is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
