While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Evan, This is my policy as well because I teach evening classes like you. By letting them have access to their phones in this way they feel that they are being treated with respect but also know that as their instructor I do not want distractions that would interfere with their learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, The key is to use the technology in a way that supports learning for students and doesn't become a distraction. You are doing just that with your policy about cell phones and the taking of pictures. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tamra, This is a good way to capture their interest at the beginning of the course so then you can walk them through the steps of learning so at the end of the course they know what they are capable of doing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
April, As learning leaders we need to be role models for our students as you mention so they know what the expectations are for them as they move through the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
