About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kelly, I am sure you are going to like the results you get from using this activity. This helps to get students into a reflective mood and this is important as they move through their coursework. They need to keep fresh in their mind why they are there and what their career goals are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, So true and we need to remember this when we have interaction with our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Roxanne, Great suggestion. I know this will be of value to other instructors, especially those that are just starting their teaching careers and are looking for ways to get students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shawn, Like the way you blend the course from one session to the next for your students. This is how they will be able to grow in the subject area and make applications of the math concepts that you are sharing with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sheena, This is a great setting to be in as your students get content and then make application. This is such a good learning model to be able to use. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Great use of multiple intelligences in the learning process. This way each student has an opportunity to internalize information in a way that gives value to that individual and is made a part of their working memory. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, Good point because the first impression is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shawn, Your last sentence really puts it all in perspective. This is what instructors should strive to do when they start a new course off and are trying to gain the attention of students. This is how respect is earned and rapport developed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shawn, This is a great way to gain insight into how other instructors present content and do instructional delivery. The idea of selecting a subject not in your field is something other instructors should consider so they can focus just as you mention on the instruction and not the content. This will give them opportunity to really concentrate on the key aspects of how to expand their expertise and knowledge of what it takes to be a master instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sheena, Your last sentence hits on a really key point and that is the development of their professional skills along with the technical ones. By providing experiences and training in both students will be able to function well in the workplace as both a skilled professional as well as a career expert. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
