How tolerant are you of people who look and think differently than you? With global terrorism continuing to rise, this is an important question - one which drives down to the very core of who we are as human beings.

There is a deep concern about hate crimes (meaning crimes motivated by racism, intolerance or bigotry) today. It is also very troubling that people under the age of 18 commit more than half of these vicious crimes in the United States - and the trend seems to be spreading to other countries not normally known for such behavior.

Do you know what Scotomas are? Everyone has them and they can keep you from seeing the opportunities all around you.

So what exactly is a "Scotoma?" A scotoma is what doctors call the defect that blocks sight in one part of our visual field. It is also a term we use to describe our occasional failure to see what is right in front of us because we build our own Scotoma, a mental blind spot, to it.

You see for the most part, we see what we expect to see or what we look for. Often, we… >>>

How do we build a better society, a better world? Here is one prescription for a better world.

E-mails come in nearly every day, and some come with special requests. A while back, one such person wrote, "I've been reading your words lately as you talk about raising kids and dealing with conflict and adversity, and the importance of self-respect and self-esteem. Now, would you please talk about how we can build a better world?"

Lou was glad to. In fact, over the years, he had been talking about it all along. And he was correct when he… >>>

What do you say to a friend who has had a death in the family? While this might seem an odd choice for a daily e-mail message, it is something that affects us all at one time or another. Many of you reading this have recently dealt with this very situation.

Many people feel bewildered when it comes to the etiquette of death. Because they don't know what to say or do, they don't do anything. But even discomfort and ignorance are not good reasons for ignoring friends or acquaintances at this difficult time.

Flowers and notes cannot… >>>

Some people think it is smart and sophisticated to be cynical. We see a lot of this in the world today. The trouble is, cynicism does not help solve the challenges before us.

Do you know anyone with a cynical attitude? Most likely, you do. Cynics believe that people are motivated by selfishness. Cynics come off as scornful and contemptuous of anything that looks like virtue or integrity. Cynics pride themselves in having a "realistic approach" and mock those with a more optimistic view. But have you ever noticed that cynics more than likely are unhappy people? They are… >>>

Do you ever wish you could predict your future? Now, we are not talking about using tea leaves or cards, or calling some toll-free number and talking to a supposed psychic. What we are talking about is much more accurate and reliable.

If you want to know what your future is going to be like, do not waste your time looking into a crystal ball.  Instead, take a look at your present thoughts. You see, your present thoughts determine your future. What you are thinking about today is going to show up in a future tomorrow.

And, if… >>>

Are you worried about losing your job? Or maybe you've already lost a job and worry that you won't find another. When you lose your job, for whatever reason, you can be thrown for a loop.

If your skills and experience are in great demand it might not bother you much. However, if you work in an industry that is having hard times, or going through tremendous change, you may wonder how you are going to survive.

In fact, you may spend a lot of time imagining all the terrible things that could happen to you and your… >>>

Do you know people who talk about kids who can learn and kids who can't? Or, kids who can be helped and kids who can't? Categorizing kids - anybody - like this is shortchanging the kids, as well as ourselves.

Some 30-odd years ago, the great Japanese teacher, Dr. Suzuki, who taught over 20,000 children to understand and play the violin like virtuosi, had some words of wisdom to share with us. He said, "People today are like gardeners who look sadly at ruined saplings and shake their heads, saying the seeds must have been bad to start with… >>>

Would you like to know the real secret of life - one that has been proven, time and time again, to bring true personal and professional fulfillment?

Down through the years, there have been many stories and anecdotes about people who searched for the secret of life. The secret of life, according to the well-known psychiatrist, Dr. David Viscott, is that there is no secret. Let's see if you agree.

It is hard work, determination, and effective thinking backed up by persistent action, that brings you success in life, not any magic lamp or winning lottery ticket.

Today let's talk about the best advice you will ever get on how to become financially and mentally wealthy.  Here is a true story that should interest you if you would like to earn a lot of money or even if you just want to enjoy lots of success. Some time ago, a random sample of 1500 graduating college seniors were surveyed to find out what they would base their career choice on.

83 percent said that financial gain was the first thing they would base their career choice on and following their dream, or their passion, would come… >>>
