after reading the 1st part of this section, I am surprised at how much I already use soft skills in my class. I have also picked up some pointers that I will use in the future. has anyone else used soft skills as much as the section talks about?

ED 114 has made me aware of my need to allow slower students the opportunity to have more time to answer the question. Also, my teaching can be more productive if I incorporate more open questions. I now feel that open questions allows the student to better express them selves and apply what they have read.

I have found, teaching adult students, there are incidents students have no control over, such as the baby sitter is sick, the car broke down or they were involved in an accident, etc. Talking to the student after class and being concerned has a tendency to alleviate these incidents from occurring again. What have other instructors done to address these situations?

I am really disappointedin ED 109, I was hoping for much more and felt that the final was a trick quiz. Some of the material I can use, however, most is not applicable to my teaching. I have never scored so low on a test. The rest of the ED classes are fantastic. This particular lesson plan needs to be revamped and made more applicable.

Every time I teach the same class I always review previous notes, tests, discussion questions, power point presentations and visual aids. I always learn something new, either from my own studies or those of the students. With time I have been able to spot those students that need additional encouragement, or projects to make them feel as though they are part of the class.
Every student needs to know how they can measure their performance in class. By setting measurable standards they, the student, can be aware where they rank in the class and know what areas need to be improved upon. I understand the purpose of standards; however, my curriculum doesn’t have such requirements.
Before each class I always outline the material I intend to cover and additional material if the class time goes to fast. The next class I will briefly cover the major points and then continue with the lesson plan for that class.
I always prepare for my class because of the unknown questions that always seem to arise. The educational and real life experience of the class is very demanding and teaching effectively to each student is in fact a daily challenge. I also use outside sources to keep the students attention and for additional information not explained in detail in the text.

What an eye opening insight into adult learners! I really liked the section on the concept  of students as customers. Also excellent material on advising students.

The majority of my students are adult learners and are extremely motivated, enthusiastic, and constantly challenging. These students are actually more critical of themselves upon completion of an assignment than I am. They realize the importance of their actions and the consequences it will have in the work force.
