In the film METROPOLIS there is a line that says something to the effect of the heart and the mind must be connected by the hand. This is a very powerful idea. We, as teachers and communicators must always strive to use the hand (to me, our practical every day work, etc.) to connect our heart (we are here because we care about human beings) with the head (the organization that keeps things going). It's a constant balancing act, to me.
I think it's very important that the catalog also function as an image of the school. Visually interesting, well designed, and easy to access - I know that in my own experience the ease of finding basic information in a catalog has swayed me whether to continue pursuing info about a particular school.
Clearly documentation and keeping accurate records is key here. It also helps develop a culture for employees to follow and understand.

It is always interesting to me how much the media focuses on for profit schools and having them meet requirements while the non-profit schools do not have the pressure of having what happens to their students after graduation, etc. monitored. Although that is slowly changing in our country.

What passive lectures have you turned into active learning lessons?  I've done a lot with making reviews before exams or quizzes more active by having the students create their own tets and then take each others's tests as practice on a review day.

In this module one of the comments addressed how you might spend time preparing every detail of a lecture and it not working out anywhere near the time you plan. I think it mentioned that you might plan something to last 20 minutes and in delivery, it takes five. I often find the exact opposite happening. I plan for those 15-20 minutes of lecture in order to give out information and it turns into 30-40 minutes of actual class time. Sometimes students have questions or engage in discussion and other times I just take much longer than planned. I do… >>>

I just completed the course on Generation Y ED 117.  I found it very interesting and informative.  I am quite fascinated with the generational differences in people.  After many years of teaching high school age students I have found that school sems to be suffering from grouping people together by age.  Thus people at young ages don't develop the skills  and understanding to work with people of all different ages, which is a needed skill in the workplace.

I found the info and ideas in this course to be very useful particularly as a teacher of a course in Critical Thinking.  By reading through the material in the course, I was reminded of or inspired to many ideas that I can take in the classroom.  I enjoyed this course!
