Classrooms today are filled with students from multiple generations with different learning needs and learning styles. Learning how to adapt to these needs in the classroom are key to our students success and our individual success as an Instructor. 

 

Gamification is an excellent method of making things easier to learn in class. Using them has definately increased interest in courses and participation.

I agree Diego - what helps me is to keep track of the subject matter - a sticky note, or little memo written down of here I am and what I've covered. 

What works for me to have the student demonstrate the level of understanding after accessing the level of English in their ability to read and write. You'd be suprised how many students can read and understand English.

Unfortunately, there are situations when students get other instructors involved in a situation and the "other" insturcor sides with the student and lets the student know (leaving the first instructor our of the loop completely). Basically, the student is manipulating the situation and the instructor is allowing it. Instuctros must be equiped to live by the "golden rule" - to which is to remain impartial in the student's eye - even if they agree with the student - becasue they want to reamin "on good terms" (be every students friend).

Because our field of education is unique, based on the fact that our student population is so diverse (not just in age, but knowledge base and learning styles differ greatley), creating learning teams that don't result in "clicks" is key. Seperating the students who sit together and/or around each other and moving students who sit in the back to the front and the one's who sit in the front to the back - has resulted in positive results. Of course you will have the few who resist and I don't feed into the situation - eventually they come along -… >>>
