Activity

I appreciate when clear expectations of student behavior are outlined in a syllabus and when a link to the student handbook is provided in the syllabus. When an instructor takes the time to go over the policies and procedures, the instructor is being preventative versus reactive.

I have experienced all of these challenging behaviors in the classroom. Having a plan of action to address different issues while respecting the student is important. I love to use classroom engagement activities and discussions to keep students present.

Students need to know that they are being set up for success in the course. By doing the recommended activities recommended in this course, students will have a clear understanding of what to expect and know there is a clear path to earning a high grade in the course if they do their part.

Educational institutions have some flexibility when it comes to the provision of documentation of a disability and what accommodations are needed by students. I previously was unaware of the concept of the Universal Design, but it makes a lot of sense.

Many disabilities are not easily recognized, such as mental health disorders. Also, unfortunately, students may not disclose their mental health issues or reach out for assistance.

I learned the two federal laws relating to people with disabilities. I was happy to see that it was explained that disabilities can include hidden disabilities, such as ADHD and emotional disorders. Also, accommodations do equalize the access to success.
