Khal, What a powerful post! Both of your items to consider are so important. Those items are the purpose of summative assessment. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Jennifer, The Assessments? What about output or data to interpret? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Sarah, Interesting statement, ". . . learning objectives form both the instructor and the student point of view." There is a difference. We have different interpretation of the output of the outcomes (objectives). We really have to include both groups and we don't always do that. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Jennifer, You make a great point. Does it fit the environment. I always ask, do students know how to use in the context of the content. We may be just testing how well they use the technology. . . Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Sarah, What a great post! You don't want the technology to become the barrier for student learning. It amazes me when "people" assume that all our students know technology when they really don't. Then we assess their learning using a tool they are not familiar with. Crazy. . . Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Coleen, Don't you think your time spent as a student in the online environment helps you as an online instructor? We should always learn from our times as students. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Coleen, Great strategies. I love your comment "better to ask now while in school than not know in the real world" We have to "pull" them into the conversation as this may we they way some students have to learn at work. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Coleen, You are right, the difference is really about delivery. We may have to make sure it is in different forms. I find when I work to develop good learning for my online course it improves my f2f. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Maureen, Great I use the tools in my LMS to help me. I also link it in different place within my course. The important thing to remember is to make sure you drive your students there. When a student emails you a question check to make sure they posted in the question discussion area first. I also send announcements to students to remind them someone has posted a question and the first one to answer it correctly gets points. I also post in announcements that "student name" did a great job answering a question regarding the course. It will work… >>>

Coleen, You make an important! We have to have boundaries and there is Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
