It is important to write drafts and rewite when writing documents.

 

Critical thinking can be hard and it is important to teach students how to ask good questions.  

 

I learned that emotional intelligence involves having soft skills vs IQ which is useful for hard skills.

I learned that soft skills = people skills plus workplace behaviors and that soft skills are more significant than technical skills.

I plan to use the in home activities by having pre-recorded lectures to watch and prepare for in class time. For step 2, I will use that time more for interactive learning, activities, and games.  Step 3 will be the homework assignments and projects.

 

Motivating students requires empathy, enthusiasm, and clarity.  It also is good as an teacher to be aware of your style and the environment that you create for the students.  It is important not to humilate the students.  

 

I enjoyed learning ideas to encourage rapport in the classroom such as encouraging trust, respect, and identification of common goals.  It is also important to remind students of why they chose this program such as having them write down why they choose their career on a 3x5 card.  

 

It was good to learn about engaging more with studetns by having a bit of fun, lightheartedness especially at the beginning of class to promote engagement and have students be interested in the next class.  I learned that it is important to tell students how to succeed, give recognition and rewards.  I have learned that competition is important, but it is important to make sure competition is not too intense.

 

I have learned the importance of understanding what motivates students and that they need support from family & friends and the university.  I also was able to review Maslow's Hierarchy and that students need their basic needs to self-actualization met.  Also, Maslow's Hierarchy moves from extrinsic to intristic.  

 

As a new instructor, I have been learning alot and am grateful for this course.  Overall, it is challenging for me to develop strategies that maintain students' intrests and allows variety.   I have learned that I need to ensure I move around the room more and not just stand a the podium. Upon reflecting on the past, walking around the room was effective in addition to maintaining eye contact with different students.  I have had a tendency to focus on some students and other times all students.  I needed to realize through these courses that I need to always… >>>
