Yes there are allot of great ideas, I 've used some in my classroom already!  like speaking to students in private after class when they late or absent I feel like there is allot more communication.

One thing that I do in the classroom when I teach CPR is scenarios, I hand them a sheet of paper with a scenario and they have to know what to do on their own , I evaluate as they are performing and advise at the end.

I also agree, when we greet our students in a professional manner we  make them feel comfrotable so they feel that they can ask questions and ask for help when they dont understand something a smile never hurt anybody :)

I think a General study guide is good especially if there is a lot of information to cover in ashort period of time
