The more you pre-plan for your class the more you and the students will be prepsred for class. 

As an instructor we act as role models.  How we present ourselves (dresscode, language, timeliness) is how we can expect the students to act in class.  Found the friend vs pal was helpful.  Advice from fellow instructors is a tool we can use throughout our careers.

i agree with travel and trying the foods of that region as a major influence on learning.  The cellphone use is also a good tool during travel to photo different dining experiences.  This also impoetant for instructors so we can stay intuned to what is happening currently in the industry.

Encouraging students to use their senses to help in their education.  Whether it be visual and smell for product ID or visually looking for sanitation flaws.   If we as instructors give feed back with the student on dishes we both try this will help the student retain information.

Having a student create a timeline will help them manage the day more effeciant.

Giving real life intances where math and proper english is relavent in our industry.  Psychology plays a major role in the restaurant buisness.  A students demener can change from day to day.

Being a new instructor after owning my own restauraunt for several years, I feel that this gives good insight on how ages and cultures can determine a students thought process on demonstrations, flavor profiles and the grading system.  It is also a good reminder whether good or bad on how the T.V. CelebrityC hef has influenced our industry.
