About me

My name is Dr. Romeo Pastor,RDCS,RDMS, Program Director of DMU at SBI-NYC. I started teaching ultrasound since 1987 when our school was still Ultrasound Diagnostic School. In my country (Philippines) I was a missionary doctor for 7 years in the mountains under the Franciscan Missionaries after which I finished 3 years of residency in Pediatrics, practiced for 2 years then came to US 1986.

Since we could not practice our specialty here unless we pass the exam for foreign graduates, I decided to enter into the field of Ultrasound and Cardiovascular Sonography.

For the past 24 years I have been teaching ultrasound and cardiovascular, I really learned to love the field. The success of my students gave me a lot of inspiration to continue teaching. I learned many things from them as they also learned from me. This is the only pride that came out from my humbleness and I really stand for it.

Discussion Comment
We normally do this when we need a detailed discussion on a certain topic like "Diagnostic Procedures" done by physicians in the hospital assisted by sonographers that we don't do in the campus. Examples are breast biopsy, hysterosonography, amniocentesis and many others. The physician who really does these procedures in the hospital can really discuss this topic thoroughly, simply and with a better understanding for students especially when accompanied by a demo. Students will appreciate these because they start to become aware of their role as sonographers in the field. I really recommend guest speakers to visit our schools.

All the knowledge I learned from this training widened my horizon as a teacher. I thought everything I was doing with my classroom management for all those years were sufficient. I realize now  it did not. This training provided me with the guidance that every teacher needs to adhere. It is so thorough and very clear to follow. The one who formulated this training did an awesome job. My warm CONGRATULATIONS!!!  I am now excited to start with another course.

My class has different degrees of education. Although the requirement to enter the program is only two years in college I have students who have bachelor's degree, medical degree(Doctor of Medicine),other doctorate degrees and associates degree and the 2 yr.college requirement. I normally ask questions during my lecture to a level that is comprehensible to all of them. After the anatomy and physiology of an organ the best portion to ask questions is when I go to pathology of the organ.I can already ask critical questions like "what adjacent organs are involved in the presence of a tumor in this… >>>
