Hi Ny'Kole,

Thank you for sharing!  I really like your 3 areas.  Do you work for a for-profit institution where placement percentages are important to maintain by the accreditation?  I like the fact that you take time out during the New Student Orientation to talk about Career Services.  I may use that idea if it's okay with you.

Have you seen that taking time during New Student Orientation has been pretty effective for students?  I would love to hear more about how it's been working for you.

We have career development workshops, where we go into the classrooms.  Do… >>>

Hi Gina and Jeannie!  I work in Career Services, so communication is definitely important in my role.  Communicating both with upcoming graduates and with employers.

What do you believe is the best way to communicate with a student who has been hard to get in contact with?

Greetings everyone!

Thanks for responded Michele.  Sorry for my delayed response.  We work in similar work environments.  I am also taking the CS202 course for the first time. I work for a for-benefit for-profit institution, so placement metrics are a big part of what our department is measured by.

Has anyone experienced working with graduates who are not even interested in providing employment information, even though it's required for Career Services employment data?

I have learned to make sure I establish relationships early on with the students, however, since I have a new population of students, there are… >>>

Hi Patty,

Welcome to the Career Services profession.  Thank you so much for your response Patty.  I was starting to wonder if anyone was reading my posts because I hadn't received any responses.  I'm so glad you responded and have reached out.  I would love to connect and network with you.  My work email is rparks@stratford.edu

The university I work at is fairly new as compared to our other campuses, so I'm actually the first FT Career Services person they've hired.  My title is actually Career and Student Services Coordinator, so I have dual roles, which sometimes can be… >>>

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for sharing this information!  Appreciate the warm Career Services welcome. Would you happen to have a copy of that resume building worksheet you use?  That sounds like something i would like to incorporate, so when I meet with students, we will already have a foundation to work with. Especially, for students who are new to resume writing.

What do you enjoy about the industry?  It's definitely a rewarding career field, when we can help so many students with their career goals and career development in life.  That's one of the reasons I enjoy what I do.… >>>

Hi Dana,

What type of Career Services department to you work in?  I work for a for-profit university, so helping potential graduates with their career goals and helping them find positions in their degree field is important.

I'm a new Career Services professional, so what resources have you found helpful to share with students when you meet with them to go over their resume?  I look foward to hearing from you.

Ryan N. Parks

I totally agree with you Margie.

Greetings Career Services Professionals!

I am fairly new Career Services professional, so am excited about networking and learning from seasoned Career Services professionals.

I work as a Career and Student Services Coordinator at my university, but spend a lot of my time doing the career services/career development aspect of my role.  Mainly, because currently I'm the only one in the department.  I work in a small department, so at the moment it's just me as the Career Development specialist.  Any suggestions from your experiences on how you maximized empowering students and graduates with thinking about their career early on… >>>

I agree!  Great meeting you Christina!  Is this your first time taking classes through Max Knowledge?  I am fairly new to the courses, but have definitely been learning a lot.  I started in my Career Services role in June, so I am the process of learning more effective ways to make our Career Services department more welcoming, and more in use by students and graduates.  I am the only Career Services representative, so I literally have been managerial work, as well as my own role as Career & Student Services Coordinator.

How have you helped make your department more effective?… >>>
