Paula, ...and learner autonomy is a general goal that all instruction should try and accomplish. What is wonderful about newer technological tools and environments is that autonomy is required as a "user" which, in turn, encourages those skills as a learner as well. Dr. Ruth Reynard

Alice, Yes, providing guidance is helpful as long as it doesn't become prescriptive in curtailing options for students. There is a role for instructors in helping students make sense of information they find for sure. Dr. Ruth Reynard
