It is important to take into consideration the backgrounds/experiences/goals as well as taking the time to see classroom settings from the students perspective in order to have the most successful learning experience possible for students.

As an instructor you want to take into account your students different learning styles and apply that to the delivery of lectures as well as course materials in order to have the highest possible success with your students. By varying the way you deliver the course material your students will respond postively and will help keep them from getting complacent during class.

Establishing the right mood for the class is important for not only yourself as the instructor, but also for your students as well. Arrive early, greet each student, have them introduce themselves, and begin to establish a community within the class are a good way to begin the first day of class.

As important as it is to be the model and professional in the room, it's just as important to be prepared and to have a clear vision for the class so that students and teachers are on the same page in regards to expectations, lessons that will be learned, and the overall direction of the class being instructed.

Being able to be passionate about your subject and infusing that passion into your students is a great way to establish engagement in a classroom. Being professional and being the model also will go a long way towards helping/being an instructor to the students. Having a professional development plan is a great way to continue your growth as an educator.
