Activity

Learning is an active process, the learner must be involved mentally, physically, emotionally, socailly, and maybe even spiritually.

And long after class is over, students must continue to reflect/think about the topic/concept and apply them in multiple facets of their life.

I recently found this video and have shared it with my students.  I assigned them 10-15 minute increments and had them share what they picked up from the video.  Then we had a discussion.  Not only did all students speak up while collaborating, they all, well most became interested to watch the entire video on their own (without me forcing the entire almost 60 minute video on them), and they now have tips on how to make the most of their time studying.  I think this video can be used by both students and teachers in more ways than just… >>>

What struck me most in this section was the video where the speaker said something along these lines - the only way we can do the right thing well is to do the right thing poorly at the beginning.  I think this takes humility and openness.

I learned that being familiar with the institution's policies is very important especially when having to address situations with students.

Once again, I hear that getting to know the students and also reflecting on my approach to teaching and how I teach help students succeed.

Every type of student needs to be heard and once the teacher has heard and gotten to know the student, the teacher is best positioned to help the student and in fact use the student's strength to help them become successful in the course.

I learned the following in this course:

The value of a well written syllabus.  A well written syllabus can spare the faculty unnecessary headache and debate.

Students need to develop a personal connection with the course - and this is my responsibility as the teacher.

Teamwork is vital to my students' success.

One does not need to be an SME to share.
