About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

Tonya, this is definitely a consistent problem with groups. I try to have designated tasks for all as this can help alleviate this some. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Erin, exactly right & it can really provide some great, interesting discussions Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Christine, I highly encourage this as it really does help the students see the relevance of today's "theory" with tomorrow's practice. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Marlene, this sounds like a great method, particularly the debate idea. This helps develop critical thinking & the ability to listen to another side's views & opinions. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Marlene, we really must take these type of steps to ensure that there is no cheating occurring. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
James, this is an excellent point & one that we have been discussing much recently at my institution. We have to help our students understand the value of the face to face. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Robb, I agree with you. While the Gen Y learners seem to expect the good grade, I have found that when I lay out the expectations they typically are good to fulfill them. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Karen, yes, the teamwork aspect is vitally important & our students really do need experience working in this situation. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Staci, this is a great idea, regardless of the subject matter we teach. Borrowing the concepts & techniques of others only improves our own practice & content. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Ana, this is a great point. Too often we think providing the support or help will require a great amount of extra time, but as you point out this is simply not the case. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
