About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

cynthia, this is a great way as it helps prepare them for the work & the learning & also teaches them to reflect & evaluate. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Karl, the examples really do provide those pegs that the students can hang the various concepts & information on for recall later. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Pamela, this is very true & often the two pronged approach is the most effective. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Kim, I think trying to understand the other's perspective is key, as too often we limit ourselves to our own experience/perspective & then we can easily villanize the other person. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Raphael, excellent point about the application & personal experience. This is where the information/data comes alive. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Sandra, yes, the more hands on we can make the learning, the better this generation seems to be engaged with the material. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
lori, this can be true of many sites & depending upon the use. I would say that LinkedIn is a great resource for our students for networking & seeking employment. FB can be used for group projects & provides a great platform in that area. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Sandra, and I've realized this is no different than the average work environment. By using technology in the classroom we can help our students to be more prepared to be wise users of the technology in their work place. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Mary, these are all great strategies & do much to help ensure that you are reaching the gen y learners. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Sandra, yes, this is true. This is the method in which this generation is accustomed to learning & we need to work to accomodate this while still using best practices. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
