About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

LaToya, this is a great idea. Some students may not know where to look for the extra practice, so if we can provide those resources, how much the better for them. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Debra, this is very brave of this student and as you pointed out, the key now is to make sure that you help her & find out what has worked the best for her in the past. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
LaToya, I agree that developing a method or system that allows for some individualized accountability is best for group work. While it's not perfect, this does tend to reduce the amount of slacking off. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
David, yes, it makes them feel part of the class & also reminds them that you can see them & know what they are doing, etc. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Debra, great point made here. Our students don't need to be amazed with our vocab or lingo, but they need to understand the material. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Joyce, these are all great approaches to developing a successful presentation. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Eric, yes, you have to abide by our institution's policies. LinkedIn is a great alternative as it's purpose is professional networking as opposed to socializing. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Adrian, this connects well with both the need for instant feedback & also the personal touch that this generation likes. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Samuel, this is a great concept. My first principal used to challenge us with this idea: if your class is inattentive or disorderly, whose fault is that? Great idea to remember. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Linda, yes, the debrief is key to really cementing the learning from various activities & experiences. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
