About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

Tammy, the continuing ed courses & programs are a great way to learn from others & share ideas. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Larry, yes, it does not have to just focus on the academic subject at hand, but we have the chance to really help them in many areas. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Heidi, I think the real life demonstrations are a great way to help a variety of learners. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Terry, glad you found a positive in this; your point is well taken as it shows the importance of keeping it simple & providing clear instructions. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Heidi, they really do provide pegs on which to hang the theorectical concepts. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Joseph, you've shared a great perspective & some key ideas for all of us to remember. I think if we can help them learn concepts or do something without technology & then show them how the technology connects, it provides an even richer experience for them. Thanks for sharing. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Shantel, all of these are great strategies for ongoing professional development. I think one of the keys is recognizing I can never know it all, but I have a lot of fun in trying to learn as much as I can. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Brian, I think this is a great strategy. If the student discloses about a learning need, you can also ask them what has really helped in the past. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Bryan, which then allows you to engage all students. As you see a student drifting off or maybe struggling with a concept, you are more aware of these issues & can help. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Discussion Comment
walter, this is a great description. It's extra bad when the goals are difficult to achieve and/or the resources are not provided. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
