About me

I currently serve as the Vice President of Business Solutions for Bridgepoint Education. In my present role, I provide guidance to the company's ground based and online colleges to optimize their operations while staying within regulatory guidelines.

I have over 22 years of experience in the education industry. My experience encompasses virtually all aspects of the education business, including admissions, financial aid, academics, career services, and management of multi-campus operations. I’ve held senior level management positions at Career Education Corporation, MedVance Institute and the University of Phoenix (Apollo Group) as well as providing consulting services to a multitude of colleges and universities during my tenure with Campus Management Corporation.

My focus has been on campus start ups, regulatory compliance, process improvement, and operational oversight of multiple campus colleges, including international campuses. I recognize the challenges of working in a highly regulated environment that has grown more complex as companies have expanded operations, either organically or through acquisition, to include multiple regulatory bodies and governing oversight entities.

I hold a B.S. degree in Business from Arizona State University and an M.A. degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. I have completed the Apollo Group's Executive Development Program and the Career College Association's (now APSCU) Leadership Institute.

This is a great list to use as guiding principles!
Exellent point, Bernard! I think nothing is more rewarding than witnessing student success and satisfaction first-hand!
It's great to hear that your system serves as such a great tool!
Stephanie - make sure that you review your institution's policies regarding promotions given limits based on the removal of the safe harbors for incentive compensation. Promotions and career laddering are certainly motivators but there are some restrictions which institutions must abide by to be in compliance with regulations.
Nick- you bring up some great questions on electronic data storage and licensing limitations. These areas can be easily overlooked without a formal process to include such considerations in an overall security plan.
You bring up good points. This course did not touch on other areas of compliance such as PCI required for protection of credit card information. There is increased scrutiny in this area as well, given focus on identify theft matters which have become more prevalent.

Agreed - if things are not generally in order, it is really too late to change that last minute.
Brittany - It sounds like your school has a good system in place to provide materials in a timely manner.

Marie - I think your statements are right on target. And learning this information is not a one time thing...it's critical to stay current as policies and statistics are continuously changing.
Stephen - I think you are right about today's generation of youth. They are very vocal and, if the message is positive, this can be leveraged to help create awareness of a program and/or institution. But they will also be quick to spread any bad news - also in the spirit of "helping" to inform people. This should keep al industries, including education, on their toes to meet and exceed expectations to create satisfied spokespeople (students and alumni) that may be advocates.
