About me

I currently serve as the Vice President of Business Solutions for Bridgepoint Education. In my present role, I provide guidance to the company's ground based and online colleges to optimize their operations while staying within regulatory guidelines.

I have over 22 years of experience in the education industry. My experience encompasses virtually all aspects of the education business, including admissions, financial aid, academics, career services, and management of multi-campus operations. I’ve held senior level management positions at Career Education Corporation, MedVance Institute and the University of Phoenix (Apollo Group) as well as providing consulting services to a multitude of colleges and universities during my tenure with Campus Management Corporation.

My focus has been on campus start ups, regulatory compliance, process improvement, and operational oversight of multiple campus colleges, including international campuses. I recognize the challenges of working in a highly regulated environment that has grown more complex as companies have expanded operations, either organically or through acquisition, to include multiple regulatory bodies and governing oversight entities.

I hold a B.S. degree in Business from Arizona State University and an M.A. degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. I have completed the Apollo Group's Executive Development Program and the Career College Association's (now APSCU) Leadership Institute.

Amman , Great questions to reflect back on "rights", "wrongs", changes and what the auditor may be focused on during upcoming visits. Traci Lee

Amman , Thanks for your comments. I agree that there are problems with some schools and while regulation is intended to help, some of the regulations do not seem to address the root cause of the issues while causing additional burden to other schools that are not part of the concern. Traci Lee

Wanda, The challenge is getting the positive stories out to the media in a way that motivates them to publish the good side. Traci Lee

Eddie, Another well encapsulated summary - thanks for sharing! I especially like the mention on the opportunity to empower and grow by leveraging experienced team members as "mentors". Traci Lee

Eddie, Well stated - you really touch on the impact of the student/graduate role as a member of a productive community which is sometimes not mentioned when considering the purpose of higher education. Traci Lee

Kristi, I think most schools have student success stories as well as those where there may not have been a match between the student's needs and the programs offered. While schools should be accountable to providing what they say they offer, there are often a wide range of perceptions even at the same school and/or program that makes it difficult to determine if a problem was an isolated incident or, evidence of a deeper concern. Darlene, Agreed that the more frequently regulatory guidelines are monitored, the easier to manage overall. You bring up weekly monitoring for 90/10 and I have also heard more and more schools trying to manage their Direct Loan reconciliation on a more frequent basis than the monthly monitoring outlined in the regulations. This seems more important to schools with frequent term starts but the same concept applies that it is easier to do in small increments versus having a longer period of transactions to reconcile. Darlene, You bring up a good point on the text/calls to cell phones. I am curious to hear how other schools are handling this - does anyone want to share their practices? Specifically, I am curious to hear how and when schools are asking students to "opt in" to receive texts. Traci Lee

Joe, I think the catalog is an excellent tool and resource and your plan to review with the administrative team. I have also used a "Quiz' or "Q&A" type approach for training and reinforcement of the catalog content. Traci Lee

sandra, I like your comments on the risk analysis - to find out the "how" it happened to develop preventive measures in the future. Traci Lee
