practical work
My students have alot of practical work. I noticed that there are some who just can't get motivated for it. I learned by talking to the student one on one is the best remedy to explain that is won't go away. They need the credits to graduate. Sometimes just talking to the student is enough.
Hi Shane:
Sometimes, we have to go beyond just teaching our subject matter. Lending a willing ear to hear of student concerns apart from class related issues helps reinforce the student-teacher relationship, and is nealy always appreciated by the student. We could probably help more students if they were willing to open up, but manty are not. Taking time to get to know our students can be an introducytion to opening that door.

Couldnt agree more I have had similar situations with students and there is underlying concerns talking to my students helps so much
Hi Jana:
Taliking takes time - a valuable resource that many instructors are unwilling to invest in their students. I agree. 1:1 discussion with a student can be virtually life saving in some instances. We also can learn so much from these intimate chats.
