In our opening day of class we introduce our grading format, then follow the format in lab it works very well.

As students, most always want to know "how do I earn a grade in this class". What a perfect opportunity to capture their interest and use "the momemt" to tell of your expectations, methods for success, or tips from past classses that have proved useful. Students will be better informed and understand what's expected because they paid more attention to something they veiw as valuable to them.
