always keep your grade book current, give test back the next day.
Cathryn:
Students do apprecitiate timelineness in geeting feedback. I know many of our classes are daily, and going serveral days with new information when past errors or incomplete understanding may still exist from earlier days assessments have not been reviewed is a sluggish method and less than effective way to instruct.
Some teachers will review the test or quiz immediately following. At least students can discuss their rationale for mistakes or misunderstandings.
We want to measure results as part of an objective grading system. But that also includes sharing that information with students so as to avoid repeating or lagging behind with important course content.

I know my students are always commenting on how nice it is to get their homework and tests back at the next class meeting time. I am not a full time teacher but this is one of my goals when teaching is to get their work back to them and also go over it so they understand if they did something wrong what it was and what the correct answer would have been.
Hi Lucille:
Student evaluations should be honest, accurate reflections of the degree of learning and matching the learning objectives the students has achieved.
We can be nice (and should always display courteous interactions with students), but we don't help the student if we are not holding them to the standards established by the course or institution.
As long as we are fair, consistent among students, and measure their lerarning, we are assessing in the best way.

I have found that even the smallest cretique, good or bad can chang a students work. Sometimes I will mention that a line is too thick when piping in chocolate and from that point on the student has it in their head that they must fix that little issue. Other times, I will mention something like the flow is a little of on your plating and get bad reviews from the students! I believe in being honest and sometimes it works out for the best.
Hi Rick:
This is agood practice. Students shouldknow how they performed on a test ASAP. We can reinforce the correct information, and dispel incorrect ideas or concepts.

Hi André:
Evaluations inform students how they've measured up against the standards of the class or the school. Reviewinging tests soon after their given is a good technique to reinforce the correct information, and dispel the incorrect information.

When evaluating your students it's always a good practice to immediately cretique at the moment if possible. this shows that you care about the quality of the education provided and recieved, while setting the achievement bar for consistent
student achievements and confidence building.
