Hi Tammie:
You bring up a good point - and additionally, what message would it send to the students who are excelling in your class if a student who was barely making it was allowed to pass because of the use of an extrea credit assignment?
Regards, Barry
Extra credit should not be allowed at any level. I see students coming into the college i work for and having entitlement issues because they were given so many chances to get through high school. We need to avoid extra credit and I beleive most educational institutions would agree that grade inflation is a problem.
Hi Mark:
I simply choose not to consider or award extra credit at all. Many reasons, but bottom line is it's about points and grades and little to do with learning.

Hi Deandra:
There is a reason your college doen't allow extra credit. I don't know why but many colleges do not becasue they have found it to be perceived as unfair by students, subjective in grading, not based on course objectives, unbalanced in point distribution, and it skews the grades.
Grade inflation in education occurs when students get higher grades for doing little. I put extra credit in that category.
I really dislike being accused of showing favoritism when I go out of my way to avoid it. I think extra credit will tend to suggest that in the minds of good students who do all of the required assignments, yet se their classmates getting a grade or points "for doing little.

I would love to be able to do an extra credit for students however my college does not allow any type of make up on quized except for the final or extra credit
Hi Diane:
Yeah, the modules are good, but the comments from the participants are what makes it interesting.
