when to give bonus questions?

When I know the test is challanging.

Hi Fran:
I like your sentiment of wanting to encourage students. I would say there other ways than EC to do that. EC only articially raises grades - it does little regarding the learning we are supposed to provide students. In my teaching environment (medical studies), articially raised grades make for poor employees who could potentially harm a patient - can't tolerate that. Help students in every way possible, but giving unearned EC is not the best way. Just my opinion, others may disagree, and that's OK.

Regards, Barry

Giving extra credit on a difficult quiz is a good idea it allows the student to shine maybe on that subject and gives them a chance to bring up the grade I don't think extra credit should be an everyday thing once in a while.
