building a performance based evaluating system

this is a result base evaluating system which helps and informs both instructor as well as the student regarding their performance and how to improve it.

Kiona,
Great!. This is a good way to stimulate critical thinking skills with students. Grading following a established process assure more objectivity and fairness, and perhaps determines the degree of learning and understanding that has occurred.

I grade with Rubrics which I find really helps the students know what I am looking for. The key is to not give students the answers through the rubric but to help guide them in the right direction.

Hi Alnita,
Performance based evaluation suggests that most of the content of a course can be (and should be) measured in some objective manner. It implies that presentation and delivery of content by the instructor makes no assurances that students have mastered the material. Many teachers used grading rubrics for this purpose because they are bery objective in the assignig of grades or points. But there are other methods, and the only caveat I suggest is that they be uniform and used consistently across the board for all students.

The evaluating method is much needed.

Hi Craig,
Good deal. I think performance based evaluations are best when they provide an up-to-date standing of performance, and the student has access in order to determine what improvements are needed to assure complete successfulness. There are many variations (way beyond this forum), and it's best each teacher and or institution determine their own best way to develop these.

I run a grade sheet for each student for every class.

Hi Sanjay,
Performance based suggests applying the skills or applications taught in a course. Therefore, measuring that collection of skills should be the basis of grading. A grading rubric, checklist, or demonstration with key or essential steps are a few of the methods that assist making the assessment as objective as possible.
