This sound very interesting! I think when students particiapate in settinbg the standards for their grade, they will be more committed to it than if it's just "handed down from on high".

My evaluation system for public speaking class includes a form that is agreed upon and developed BY THE STUDENTS the first week of class. This is not only a strategy for me to explain the delivery elements for public speaking and lead a discussion of competent public speakers, but it also helps the students to realize that they are part of the audience so their feedback is important. Of course, their grades and evaluation are always from me and there are certain non-negotiable elements but most elements on the form are a class effort.

An good evaluation system will measure the degree of learning that has occurred. There are many ways to go about evaluating students, but all roads should lead to "to what degree did the student learn?".
