Creating an Evaluation System

When I develop an evaluation sheet for my students. This allows me the opportunity to see if my students understand the content of what I'm teaching. It's a bit of a grading system on my deliverance of the material. My goal is to always make sure my student both understand and comprehend the material. This so that they can use it in their everyday life or work setting.

Very good information...

Deanna,
Great idea. This can also be done throughout the lesson. "Checking for understanding" is a method where the instructor teaches for a bit, the periodically stops and asks a question of students called at random. When more than two are unable to answer correctly, I've just identified more review is needed before I continue on.

I have my students summarize their knowledge of what they have learned at the end of each class. This enables me to know if they are comprehending what they are learning before taking exams.

Virginia,
I think any instructor can do an evaluation for any group of students they have participated in instructing. I'm not saying what kind of evaluation is appropriate, but it is more than appropriate to do so, if you feel it will help undersnd what degree of learning the students have achieved under your watch.

Carmencita,
Technically, evaluation compares, and assesment measures. But getting students to where they understand and can apply the information is always a good activity.

I will be substituting a class for a fellow instructor, do you think it would be a good idea to do an evaluation in that class? I am interested because I have been substituting for approximately 9 months but i only sub when I am needed. I also do tutoring on Fridays. I just want to make sure that i am able to get important points across to the students. I feel that I have learned from the classes that I have taken thus far.
