providing timely feedback on examinations lower the stress leves and provide information on progress
ROBIN,
As you've pointed out, reviewing test information after an exam provides a way to reinforce the correct information and clarify any mistakes or misunderstandings a student may have. It's a way for the test to be an instructional tool.

Reviewing right away lets the students know the information is important and that you want them to know the material. If you never go over it, they just see it as another grade in the grade book. I find going over the test right away also gives those students that were confused about a particular question (or have a dispute over the right answer) the ability to express and possibly rectify their concerns (if the answer IS indeed correct, but was marked wrong).
Dorothea,
I agree students can get really uptight over tests, test questions, prep for and results afterwards. Reviewing the exams immediately afterwards helps reduce some of the anxieties, and also catch instructor errors, ambiguous questions, and also help clarify why one answer might be a better choice than another.
