Hi Brian:
Good. Said another way, students will respond when they feel the instructor cares about them and their success.

Regards, Barry

Serving as a role model not only sets an example for your class but helps set a standard to be held to. The better of a role model you are the more respectable you will be to your class. Students have a hard time taking you seriously if you do not practice what you teach.

Part of being an instructor/teacher is to help students learn how to operate in a given vocation and not just do the work. Being a good role model is as important as teaching them their chosen craft. Many times students, especially younger ones, need to be taught how to act in their job and as a role model, it can become easier for them as they now have a person to model themselves after. Learning by seeing.
