Prep the class in three steps
The steps are 1. Tell them what you are going to cover, 2. Cover the material and 3. Tell them what you have covered. Here leaving room for clarification and/or emphasis.
Hi David:
Good plan. I know when I do this it helps me feel I've done my job and gives me an opportunity to clarify information that may still be unclear.

Hi Shannon:
Yes, understanding is the bigger part of learning, along with memorizing, recalling, analyzing, and applying information.

It gives a good road map of how the class will go for the day. On the first point you introduce how the class will all be heading in the same direction. Second you give the how tos, the nuts and bolts to achive the learning abjectives. Third tell what we learned always bring up dicussion and new insight. I really enjoy running my class with the 3 Tellems.
So effective and using the feedback tools allows you to clarify whether they understood the content as well.
Hi Keith:
Repitition is really an overlooked teaching methodology. Nobody like a monologue or speech. But most students are willing to practice if they realize there's a reward (learned skill or knowledge) tied to it.

Great format to use, in the process of lecturing so much information can be covered that the student may have missed a point or topic that was covered. Going back over what you have covered reinforces the subject and again it might give you a chance to add something or stimulate more conversation.
Hi Susan:
Right. Ultimately we have to be sure the student has received the needed information.

Hi Christina:
Good basic format to follow. Of course there has to be the meat in the "tellem" part. but that what the experienced educator brings to the table.

very helpful...also keeps us focused on what needs to be covered
The 3 T's of teaching always useful and a great system to plan any course.
Hi Louis:
Ah....an age old axiom about teaching (and communication).
